Loan Calculator

Quick answerEnter the principal, annual interest rate and term. The calculator estimates a fixed monthly payment using the standard amortization formula. Results exclude lender fees, taxes, insurance and changing rates.
Monthly payment—
Total payment—
Total interest—
Number of payments—

Formula

M = P × r(1+r)^n ÷ ((1+r)^n − 1)

Where P is principal, r is the monthly interest rate, and n is the number of monthly payments. For a 0% loan, payment is simply principal ÷ number of payments.

About Loan Calculator

Estimate monthly loan payments, total payment and interest. Use it when you need the result without the overhead of opening a larger application. For anything important, compare the output with your source and keep the original until you are satisfied with the result.

Editorial note

Use the result to compare scenarios, not as a lender quote

A payment estimate depends on principal, rate and term. Fees, taxes, insurance and variable-rate features may sit outside a simple amortization formula.

Run several scenarios to understand sensitivity: borrow less, shorten the term or change the rate. That comparison is usually more useful than treating one calculated payment as exact.

A realistic example

Compare the same principal over 36 and 60 months. The longer term may lower the monthly payment while increasing total interest paid.

When this tool is not the right fit

Use official lender disclosures and contract terms for a real borrowing decision.

Example

Example: enter a $10,000 loan, a 6% annual interest rate, and a 3-year term to estimate the monthly payment, total repayment, and interest.
