Measurement converter

Unit Converter

Quick answerSelect a measurement category, enter a value, and choose the source and destination units. The converter uses fixed factors for length, mass and data, and standard formulas for temperature.

How it works

How to use Unit Converter

  1. 1Enter the requested information.
  2. 2Adjust the available options.
  3. 3Generate the result.
  4. 4Copy or save it.

About Unit Converter

Convert common length, weight and temperature units. Use it when you need the result without the overhead of opening a larger application. For anything important, compare the output with your source and keep the original until you are satisfied with the result.

Editorial note

Estimate the direction before trusting the decimal

Unit conversion errors are often easy to catch with a magnitude check. A value in centimeters should usually be numerically larger than the same length in meters; area and volume require squared or cubed conversion factors.

Temperature scales are different again because their zero points differ, so a single multiplication factor is not enough.

A realistic example

Two meters equals 200 centimeters. If a result gives 0.02 centimeters, the conversion direction is clearly wrong before you even check the formula.

When this tool is not the right fit

For safety-critical scientific or medical work, verify units and significant figures against an authoritative procedure.

Example

Example: enter 1 kilometer and convert it to meters to get 1,000 meters, then use Swap units to reverse the conversion.
